Afghan prisoners released

Kabul - The United States has released 19 Taliban prisoners from Guantanamo bay in Cuba, officials said on Monday.
Sayed Fazil Akbar, a spokesperson for president Hamid Karzai, told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa the prisoners had been arrested during and after the United States-led war on the Taliban regime in Afghanistan in late 2001.
"The US officials said, they released these prisoners, because they had committed minor crimes and are not a danger for Afghanistan or the USanymore," Akbar said.
Estimates are that there are several hundreds of suspected Taliban still dwelling in Guantanamo bay in Cuba. - Sapa-DPA
