183 Hong Kong flights chopped
11/04/2003 15:11 - (SA)
Hong Kong - International airlines cancelled 183 flights or 34% of total services at Hong Kong's international airport on Friday because of the deadly outbreak of atypical pneumonia, the airport authority said.
According to notifications received from airlines so far, one-third of the total scheduled flights for April have been cancelled, it said.
The airport authority said the outbreak of Severe acute respiratory syndrome (Sars) and the World Health Organisation's subsequent advisory to travellers warning them to steer clear of Hong Kong had "dampened the demand for air traffic."
On Thursday 163 flights or 31% of all scheduled flights were cancelled with 165, 142 and 120 flights cancelled on Wednesday Tuesday and Monday respectively.
