Madrid - The panicked moments after bombs went off on packed commuter trains in Madrid, killing 200, has been brought home to Spain and the world through a recorded telephone message.
Spanish television and radio have been broadcasting since Friday the sound of an unidentified female passenger calling a friend to convey the chaos unfolding around her.
"Montse, listen up! I'm - I'm at Atocha and there is a bomb in the train and we had to..." the woman's breathless voice is cut off short by a loud detonation.
The loud scream, "Help!" is heard, then another explosion and another scream.
The line then goes dead.
According to media, the woman making the call survived the attack.
Mobile phones provided a macabre aftermath to the tragedy when they could be heard ringing unanswered in the belongings of some of the dead as families tried to contact their loved ones.
