  • Madrid - Three Moroccans and two Indians have been arrested in Spain in connection with this week's deadly Madrid bomb attacks, Interior Minister Angel Acebes said on Saturday.

The suspects were apprehended in Madrid late on Saturday after investigators tracked down clues from a bag containing an unexploded bomb recovered from one of the attack sites.

They were being questioned along with two Spaniards who were not arrested, he said.

"This is a very good line of inquiry," he said, adding: "Things are advancing in the right direction."

The minister, who had earlier declared the Basque separatist group ETA was the government's prime suspect, refused to say whether the arrests pointed more towards involvement by Islamic extremists.

"We must not discount anything," he said.
