  • London - Britain fears terrorists are planning further attacks in Saudi Arabia and that these may be in the "final stages" of preparation, the foreign office warned on Sunday.

"We continue to believe that terrorists remain determined to carry out further attacks in Saudi Arabia, and that these may be in the final stages of preparation," the foreign office said, advising against all but essential travel to the kingdom.

The updated travel advice came after suspected al-Qaeda extremists went on a bloody rampage in the Saudi oil-city of Al-Khobar, the latest in a wave of such incidents to hit Saudi Arabia over the past year.

Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz said about 10 Saudis and foreigners were killed.

A Foreign Office spokes was unable to confirm whether a Briton was among the dead, but London newspapers reported that a British oil compmay executive was among the victims at a compound in the Saudi oil city of Al-Khobar.

According to the Mail on Sunday and The Observer, the body of the Briton was dragged for over 1.6km behind a car.

The firm he worked for, Apicorp, an arm of the Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries, said in a statement that three of its employees were killed but did not give their nationalities.
