Man castrates self, kills wife

Kassel - A man who lost his penis in a fight with his estranged wife admitted Friday he had cut off his own genitals before killing her, police in this central German city said.
Authorities had said on Wednesday it was the 50-year-old woman who had sliced off her 37-year-old husband's penis with a breadknife in a domestic dispute before he stabbed her.
She later died of her injuries in a local hospital.
Police said that the man of Ghanaian origin had acknowledged during questioning that he had maimed himself but did not explain his motive. Surgeons on Wednesday sewed the severed organ back on after the man was detained and hospitalised.
The couple had been separated since the beginning of this month. The fight broke out when the wife paid a visit to the husband at his home.
When the row continued outside, neighbors witnessed the castrated man stab his wife and alerted the police and emergency services.
