Killer denies au pair murder

Dinant, Belgium - French self-confessed serial killer Michel Fourniret denies any involvement in the case of a missing au pair girl whom his wife has accused him of murdering, one of his lawyers said on Tuesday.
"His statements remain the same in regard to the young au pair girl. That is that he still denies any involvement in this case," Luc Balleux said.
The lawyer said Fourniret, 62, had asked for help from the press to track down the girl. "That's a bit strange coming from someone who is supposed to have killed this young au pair girl" he said.
Fourniret has admitted to killing nine people, mostly young women and girls, in France and Belgium between 1987 and 2001. But his wife Monique Olivier, 55, accuses him of at least 10 murders, including the au pair.
Balleux said there was no reason for his client to deny involvement in the au pair's disappearance if he were guilty, given that he has already confessed to the other crimes.
The unidentified au pair, described by investigators as blonde and French-speaking, was hired by the couple in Belgium in 1993.
The wife has told police the remains of the girl were buried near a village in the Ardennes hills on the Belgian side of the border.
