Israelis committed to US plan

Jerusalem - The United States-backed roadmap is the only viable blueprint for peace with the Palestinians, the Israeli prime minister's office said on Wednesday.

"Prime Minister Ariel Sharon supports the roadmap, the only plan liable to help progress towards a viable political agreement," his office said in a statement.

The statement came after the premier's top aide Dov Weisglass told a local newspaper that Israel was intent on "freezing the peace process" and preventing the creation of a Palestinian state through Sharon's Gaza pullout plan.
