110 arrested for baby selling

Beijing - Chinese police have arrested 110 people suspected of buying and selling infant boys following an investigation of a sprawling baby trafficking ring, the government said on Thursday.
It said all 53 trafficked boys had been rescued.
The suspects are accused of buying the boys for between 2 000 yuan ($240) and 4 000 yuan ($480) and then selling them for up to 18 000 yuan ($2 200), the official Xinhua News Agency reported.
Police were still looking for nine suspects, it said.
China has a thriving black market in babies. The trade is driven in part by birth control rules that limit most couples to only one child.
Boys are coveted more than girls given families' traditional preference for sons over daughters. Still, trafficking cases more often involve girls, who are sometimes sold by poor couples who may be hoping to try again for a boy.
Police in the southern provinces of Fujian and Yunnan worked together for six months to crack the baby trafficking ring, Xinhua said.
The last two of the 53 trafficked boys were found on Wednesday, the agency said. - AP
