Tehran - At least a hundred people were killed and 5 000 injured in a strong quake which hit Kerman province in southeastern Iran early on Tuesday, the head of the local hospital told state radio.
"A hundred bodies have been recovered from the rubble, there are five thousand injured," said Ali Sharifi, head of the Kerman university hospital.
"But many villages have still not been reached by the rescue services, and we think therefore that the toll could get a lot higher," he added.
