Montpellier, France - The mother of Zacarias Moussaoui, the only person charged in the United States over the September 11 attacks, urged France on Monday to take a stand in his case and oppose the death penalty.
"I would like for France to truly show its position," Aicha Moussaoui told a news conference in the southern city of Montpellier. "My son is French, born in France. For the moment, there is no reason to condemn him to death."
Zacarias Moussaoui told a US court in Alexandria, Virginia, on Friday that he was chosen by Osama bin Laden to fly an airliner into the White House. He pleaded guilty to six felonies, four of which carry the death penalty.
