Gaza attack plan foiled
08/05/2005 21:04 - (SA)
Jerusalem - A Jewish settler suspected of planning attacks to sabotage Israel's pullout from Gaza was placed on Sunday under a detention order until after the operation planned for this summer is over, Israeli police said.
Israel's military command placed Nevo Ofran, 34, from Yitzhar settlement near the West Bank town of Nablus, under administrative detention until September 30, in the first such case linked to the withdrawal.
He was arrested at an army checkpoint on charges of "violence and terrorist activities", a police spokesman said, without giving other details.
Israel has previously used administrative detention orders, which allow for suspects to be kept in custody without trial, almost exclusively for Palestinian militants.
