London - Two 14-year-old boys have been questioned by British police on suspicion of raping an 11-year-old schoolgirl in a "happy slapping" attack, a report said on Saturday.
The alleged assault adds to the list of a new phenomenon of physical attacks carried out in order to film them on video-capable mobile telephones.
Footage of the assault was sent to several pupils at a north London school and was reported to the police by staff who demanded to see the video, the Daily Mail said.
"Detectives are investigating an allegation of rape against an 11-year-old girl by two males both aged 14," a spokesperson for London's Metropolitan Police told the newspaper.
"Three males, all aged 14, were arrested on April 29 in connection with the incident.
"They have all been bailed to return to north London police stations on July 12," he added.
Police would not divulge the video's length and refused to discuss the clip.
"Happy slapping", as media have dubbed the practice, first appeared six months ago as video-capable mobiles became widespread in Britain.
Usually the attacks involve one person hitting a unsuspecting passerby or stranger while an accomplice films the incident. The videos can then be sent between phones and posted on the internet.
Happy slapping has expanded from its epicentre in London to hit teenagers and young adults across Britain, with several cases now notable for their level of violence.
