London: May be suicide blasts
08/07/2005 14:20 - (SA)
London - Police said on Thursday they could not say if suicide bombers were behind a series of deadly attacks on the London underground and transport system that left at least 33 dead earlier in the day.
London deputy police chief Brian Paddick said it was unclear if the attacks were carried out by bombers who blew themselves up or were caused by packages left on the trains and bus that were hit.
He also said there was nothing to indicate "anything other than conventional explosives".
Paddick added that they were "clearly shocked, but not surprised" by the attacks. Police would not speculate on who had carried out the attacks, Paddick said.
However, they were keeping an open mind over who the perpetrators might be.
