Sydney - A New Zealand businessman was arrested and charged with bestiality on Friday after police found 17 dead rabbits and a guinea pig in a central Sydney office building.
Brendan Francis McMahon, 36, was arrested shortly after midnight in a vacant office adjacent to his own office in central Sydney, police said.
McMahon, who lives in suburban Sydney, appeared in court later on Friday and was charged with one count of bestiality with a rabbit.
He also faces 18 counts of aggravated animal cruelty involving rabbits and a guinea pig between July 20 and Thursday, and two charges of possessing cannabis, police said.
McMahon did not enter a plea and was remanded in custody to reappear in court on August 19.
The Australian news agency AAP said McMahon's attorney, Douglas Marr, declined to comment on the case outside court.
