14/08/2005 15:27 - (SA)
Larnaca - Helios Airways of Cyprus said it was "unclear" what caused the crash of its airliner in Greece on Sunday with 121 people on board, its first comment on the tragedy.
"It is unclear why the aircraft crashed at this stage," the airline said in a statement, adding: "There are no reports of survivors."
Helios flight 522 crashed on a flight to Athens and then Prague on Sunday at 12:20 (09:20 GMT), it said.
"Our thoughts are with the families of those on board at this diffucult time," said Helios, which has come under fire from anxious relatives waiting at Larnaca airport for news of their loved ones.
"We are doing everything we can to keep people informed and updated about this tragic accident," it said, adding that it had issued emergency numbers for relatives.
Helios was established in 1999 as Cyprus's first privately-owned airline.
