Jerusalem - An Israeli woman suffered serious burns on Wednesday after setting fire to herself to protest against the forcible evacuation of Jewish settlers from the Gaza Strip, public television said.

The woman torched herself in southern Israel near Netivot and was rushed to hospital in the town of Beersheva, the television said.

Israelis were being dragged kicking and screaming from the Gaza Strip after Prime Minister Ariel Sharon issued final orders to clear all remaining Jews from the Palestinian territory.
