Dhaka - Authorities at a Bangladesh university rescued a 2m python from a bush outside a dormitory, where the snake was apparently stalking a domestic cat, a college official and students said on Saturday.
One resident student found the python, weighing about 10kg, late on Friday at Ziaur Rahman Hall at Dhaka University, who trapped it with the help of friends using bamboo sticks and a jute sack, administrator Borhan Uddin Khan said.
It was not immediately clear how the python got to the dormitory, which is surrounded by high concrete walls, Khan said.
Students said it might have fled from one of the many pet shops near the campus, which reportedly sell wild animals illegally.
"I am sure it has fled from any of the pet shops," Mostak Ahmed, a student of the dormitory who joined Friday's rescue operation, told The Associated Press.
The university authorities handed the python over to the Dhaka Zoo, Khan said.
