New Delhi - At least 10 people were killed and an unknown number injured when six coaches of a passenger train derailed on Monday in central India, said police.
The Bundelkhand Express train jumped the track and rammed into a railway signal cabin near Datiya, 280km north of Bhopal, the capital of central Madhya Pradesh state, police inspector general AK Soni said.
"The engine rammed into the cabin near Datiya railway station while the bogies (coaches) piled up killing 10 people on the spot," Soni said.
An unknown number of injured people were taken to nearby hospitals, senior police officer Chandrakala Naresh, said.
The train was travelling from Varanasi in neighbouring Uttar Pradesh state to Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh.
