Straw hails 'historic' accord

Luxembourg - British foreign secretary Jack Straw hailed an agreement to start EU membership talks with Turkey on Monday as a "historic day for Europe and the whole of the international community".
"It's now more than 40 years since the prospect (of eventual membership of the European Union) was first held out to Turkey," Straw told reporters after EU foreign ministers overcame Austrian objections during marathon talks.
"This is a truly historic day for Europe and the whole of the international community," he added.
