Washington - Americans trust US President George W Bush less than they trusted his predecessor, Bill Clinton, and they are increasingly losing confidence in his leadership, a poll showed on Tuesday.
In the latest USA Today/CNN/Gallup poll published on Tuesday, Bush's approval rating plunged to a record low of 37%. And 48% said they trust Bush less than they trusted Clinton.
In addition, some 52% said the phrase "is honest and trustworthy" does not apply to Bush.
On Iraq, 54% of respondents to the November 11-13 poll said it was a mistake to send troops there.
And USA Today noted that "for the first time - albeit by a narrow 49% to 48% - a plurality disapprove of the way Bush is handling the issue of terrorism."
Six in 10 also objected to his handling of Iraq, the economy and immigration. And a whopping 71% disapprove of his efforts on controlling federal spending, the poll showed.
A total of 1 006 adults were surveyed for the poll, which has a three-percentage-point margin of error.
