  • Washington - A United States court on Tuesday found an Arab-American man guilty of conspiring to assassinate President George W Bush and receiving financial aid from al-Qaeda, US media reported.

A federal jury in Alexandria, Virginia found Ahmed Omar Abu Ali, 24, guilty on nine counts, including conspiracy to kill Bush, conspiracy to hijack a plane and offering to aid Osama bin Laden's terror network. He could face life in prison.

Abu Ali's defence lawyers said he was tortured into making false statements in Saudi Arabia, where he was arrested in June 2003.

A resident of Falls Church, Virginia, a Washington suburb, Abu Ali studied in Saudi Arabia, CNN reported.
