Tehran - A convicted child killer was publicly hanged in Iran on Thursday, the second such execution in as many days, reported the official Irna news agency.
Eskandar Meraji, 30, had been convicted of the murder of Ali Reza Nazari, 12, in an August robbery in the western city of Ilam where he was hanged, said the news agency.
His execution followed that of another child murderer, Yarmohammad Samadi, 20, who was publicly hanged in the northeastern city of Taybad on Wednesday for the killing of two children two years ago.
At least 81 people have been executed in Iran so far this year, according to an AFP tally based on press reports and witnesses.
Amnesty International says at least 159 people were executed in Iran in 2004.
Capital offences in Iran include murder, rape, armed robbery, apostasy, blasphemy, serious drug trafficking, repeated sodomy, adultery or prostitution, treason and espionage.
