  • Washington - The First Lady of the United States, Laura Bush, is significantly more popular than her husband, President George W Bush, according to a new CNN/USA Today poll released on Friday.

About two-thirds (73%) of respondents said they had a good opinion of Laura Bush, with only 13% of those surveyed saying they had an unfavourable opinion of the First Lady.

The First Lady's ratings leave her political husband in the shade. A majority of 53% had an unfavorable opinion of President Bush, while 46% said they had a good opinion of the US leader.

Fifty-six percent of those polled expressed disapproval with Bush's political agenda, against 41% who expressed support for his programs.

The poll, compiled by Gallup December 16-18, surveyed 1 003 American adults and had a margin of error of three percentage points.
