Jerusalem - It is too early for doctors trying to awaken Ariel Sharon from a medically induced coma to assess what damage the Israeli prime minister's brain has sustained, his chief surgeon said on Monday.

"It is still too early to speak about cognitive function," said neurosurgeon Felix Umansky.

"It will take a number of days."
