School evacuated after shooting

Miami - A Florida school was evacuated on Friday after a student, who himself carried a weapon, was shot, authorities said in Longwood, near Orlando, Florida.

The victim locked himself in a bathroom of the Milwee Middle school, the sheriff's office in Longwood said in a statement.

"The subject who was shot was a student. He had a weapon, which was noticed by another student during school hours this morning," it said.

"It is undetermined at this time what type of weapon it was, but it had the characteristics of a handgun. It now appears the injury was not self-inflicted," the office said.

"Students, faculty and staff have been evacuated from the affected area."
