Mexico City - A deputy police chief in the seaside resort of Acapulco was killed on Friday along with two other police officers in a shootout blamed on drug traffickers, the attorney general's office said.
Four suspected criminals were also killed in the gun battle which involved heavy arms and grenades, authorities said.
The shootout began after the occupants of a truck stopped by police opened fire, an attorney general's office spokesman said.
He said the police believed the men were part of an organized criminal gang, possibly drug traffickers.
Police found what they said were fake credentials from the Federal Agency of Investigation on the bodies of the four men.
