Gaza City - Palestinian leader Mahmud Abbas was to hold talks with officials of Islamic militant group Hamas later on Saturday following its victory in last month's parliamentary elections, his spokesman said.

"Abu Mazen (Abbas) will meet with Hamas later today," Nabil Abu Rudeina told AFP without giving a time.

Hamas official Sami Abu Zuhri said the Gaza City meeting was scheduled for around 19:00.

"We will discuss the results of the election and the formation of the new government," he said.
