Amiens - The team that carried out the world's first partial face transplant said on Monday that it asked the French health authorities for permission to carry out five similar operations in the future.

"We want to launch these new techniques to give hope to other people all over the world," said Jean-Michel Dubernard, a surgeon at the Edouard Herriot hospital in Lyon and a French deputy, who helped lead the surgical team.

Dubernard was speaking at a press conference where the face-transplant patient, Isabelle Dinoire, 38, appeared before the media for the first time since the November 27 operation.
