  • London - British police said on Tuesday they had arrested a man who dressed as suicide bomber at a demonstration against the publication of cartoons depicting Prophet Muhammad.

Bedfordshire Police said Omar Khayam, 22, had been arrested for breaching parole and was being sent back to prison.

Pictures of Khayam and other demonstrators bearing placards calling for violence led to calls for the police to arrest the protesters.

London police had made no other arrests over the demonstration, but had said they were still examining images of the protest.

On Monday, Khayam met reporters outside his home in Bedford, north of London, and said he "wholeheartedly" regretted causing offence.

Protests had broken out around the world in the past week regarding cartoons, originally published in a Danish newspaper, of Prophet Muhammad. Islamic tradition banned any depiction of the prophet, favourable or otherwise.
