Hangu - Clashes between rival Muslims left four people dead and three wounded overnight, taking the death toll from religious violence in northwest Pakistan to 35, said officials on Friday.
Hangu mayor Ghaniur Rehman said: "We have reports that four more people died - two in Ibrahimzai village, one died in the hospital and one was killed in shelling elsewhere."
A hospital official also confirmed the deaths in Ibrahimzai, located 10km east of Hangu.
The official said: "Heavy mortar shelling continued overnight in Ibrahimzai... in which two people were killed and three injured."
Officials said earlier that at least 31 people died on Thursday in a suicide attack on Shi'ite Muslims celebrating the holy festival of Ashura and in ensuing riots in Hangu.
According to reports, sporadic gun and rocket fire could still be heard from villages near Hangu on Friday.
Police and paramilitary soldiers maintained a curfew in Hangu, but the situation remained tense and the streets were deserted, while shops torched in Thursday's riots continued to smoulder.
