Heist: Nearly 20m pounds found
09/03/2006 22:36 - (SA)
London - Nearly £20m of the
£53m stolen last month in the biggest cash heist in
British history has now been recovered, police said on Thursday.
A Kent police spokesperson said a haul recovered at an address
in Southborough, near Tonbridge, southern England, at the
weekend had been counted and confirmed as £8.6m.
"That brings the total recovered so far to £19.7m," he said.
The money was stolen in an armed raid on the Securitas depot
in Tonbridge on February 22.
A gang posing as police officers seized the manager of the
depot, took his wife and son hostage and threatened to kill them
unless he helped them get inside the compound.
A number of people have been arrested, but only five have so
far been charged in connection with the raid.
