Washington - A C-5 transport cargo plane with 17 people on board crashed early on Monday near a airforce base in the northeastern United States city of Dover, Delaware, military officials said.

Lieutenant Jamal Beck, a spokesperson at the base, said there was no immedidate word about injuries in the crash, which occurred at about 18:30

"There were 17 people on board. Their condition is unknown," Beck said.

"An emergency crew of firefighters, medical personnel and security forces are on the scene and an airforce board will investigate the crash.
