Lodnon - US secretary of state Condoleezza Rice, winding up a two-day trip to Iraq, returned to London on Monday with British foreign secretary Jack Straw for talks with Prime Minister Tony Blair.
US officials said Rice telephoned President George W Bush to brief him on the Anglo-Amercan effort to push Iraqi leaders to end nearly four months of political squabbling and settle on a new permanent government.
Rice broke off a trip to Britain on Saturday night to make a surprise visit to Iraq with Straw and hammer home the allies' impatience with delays in the political process.
There were no details of Rice's conversation with Bush. She was expected to discuss with Blair the situation in Iraq as well as Iran, the Middle East and Russia, the US officials said.
