Hamas defends suicide blast
17/04/2006 16:00 - (SA)
Gaza - Monday's suicide bombing in Tel Aviv, which killed seven people, was a part of the Palestinian right to self-defence, a spokesperson for the ruling Hamas party said in Gaza.
Hamas spokesperson Sami Abu Zuhri said: "Resisting the Israeli aggression is right as long as it continues.
"The occupation seized the money of Palestinian people, and urged the world not to assist them, so this attack took place and blew up in the face of those who agree to this aggressive attitude."
No Palestinian militant group has officially taken responsibility for the blast.
The blast occurred outside a falafel stand in south Tel Aviv, Israel, on Monday afternoon.
Israeli media reports said the radical Islamic Jihad organisation and the al-Aqsa Martyr's Brigades had taken credit for the explosion.
Meanwhile, in the northern West Bank, Palestinian security sources said about 80 Israeli tanks and armoured vehicles advanced on Nablus on Monday.
The appearance of the tanks sparked clashes in which eight Palestinians were wounded.
