Tehran - Iran said on Sunday its nuclear research work involving uranium enrichment is "irreversible", a week before a UN Security Council deadline for Tehran to suspend such activities.

"The suspension of Iran's activities is media propaganda. Iran's research activities are irreversible," foreign ministry spokesperson Hamid Reza Asefi told reporters.

The UN Security Council has given the Islamic republic until next Friday to halt its uranium-enrichment activities but has not laid out possible consequences if it refused to comply.
