British no 2 admits to adultery
26/04/2006 13:24 - (SA)
London - Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott has admitted to having a two-year extramarital affair with a secretary, say reports on Wednesday.
It was reported that Prescott, 67, had a relationship with his assistant private secretary Tracey Temple, 43, beginning of 2002.
Prescott was quoted as saying: "I did have a relationship with her, which I regret. It ended some time ago. I have discussed this fully with my wife Pauline who is devastated by the news."
Prime Minister Tony Blair's office dismissed the story as "a private matter," but it added to the pressure on the governing Labour Party.
The story broke a day after the government admitted that it had failed to seek deportation of foreign criminals released from prison and amid the continuing controversy over honours offered to people who gave large loans to Labour.
