  • Kuala Lumpur - A Malaysian teenager managed to save his chicken from being attacked by a python, but almost became the snake's victim when it turned on him, reports said on Tuesday.

Mustaga Firin Musa, 18, spotted the python about to pounce on one of the family's chickens, and managed to grab the snake's head to allow the chicken to escape.

However, the three-metre-long snake turned on the youth and wrapped itself around him.

"It coiled its body around my right arm and abdomen," Mustaga was quoted as saying by the New Straits Times daily.

    Began losing consciousness

For 20 minutes, he tried to dislodge the snake but began screaming for help when the snake tightened its grip, causing Mustaga to begin losing consciousness.

Two of Mustaga's friends heard his cries for help and managed to free him from the snake's coils.

The boys notified fire and rescue officials, who later caught the python. The snake will be released into the wild, officers said.
