Rome - A prelate from Vatican City has admitted to looking for a male or a transsexual prostitute when Italian police arrested him in a sleazy area of Rome on Thursday.

According to an Ansa news agency report on Saturday, police stopped the priest, who they said was behaving oddly in an area known for male prostitution, at dawn on Thursday.

The officers tried to identify the man but he ran away, reported Ansa.

The priest collided with several cars before police officers stopped him by force.

The man is a 48-year-old prelate who works for the administration of the Vatican, a micro-state within Rome.
