Zurich - The International Red Cross has launched an emergency appeal for more than $9.85m to provide aid to Indonesia after a devastating earthquake struck the central Java island on Saturday morning.
The death toll from the earthquake has risen to at least 3 505 people, said rescue officials on the island, with more than two-thirds of the deaths occurring in Bantul.
The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies said the magnitude 6.2 quake had made about 200 000 people homeless.
The quake around the central Java city of Yogyakarta buried many under the rubble of their homes.
