Man shot in UK terror raid
02/06/2006 10:15 - (SA)
London - British police shot one man and arrested another during a dawn anti-terrorism raid on a house in east London on Friday, a police statement said.
Scotland Yard said the man had been shot after officers carried out a raid as part of a pre-planned operation at a residential property.
"During the operation, a man was shot by police and has been
taken to a nearby hospital," the statement said.
Another 23-year-old man was arrested. Officers in protective
clothing had been sent to the house in the Forest Gate area of
the capital with nearby roads sealed off.
No link to July attacks
Police said the operation was not linked to last July's
suicide bomb attacks on London's transport system which killed
52 commuters.
"At this stage there is nothing to suggest members of the
public in the immediate area are at risk," police said.
Police said no details about the shot man could be given and
the matter had been referred to the Independent Police
Complaints Commission.
