Tokyo - A court in southern Japan sentenced two US Marines to prison on Wednesday for robbing a taxi driver on a base, a court official said.
The Naha district court in Japan's southernmost island of Okinawa sentenced lance corporals Henry D Morgan to three years in prison and Reginald Q Lowery to two-and-a-half years for the January 7 robbery in Camp Foster, court official Tatsuhiko Toguchi said.
The two pulled a knife on the cab driver and took about 5 000 yen ($43) and five dollars, according to the official.
The driver was unhurt in the incident.
The US Marines in Okinawa declined to release the hometowns for Morgan, 20, and Lowery, 21.
Okinawa is 1 600km southwest of Tokyo.
