Hamas threatens 'bloodshed'
05/07/2006 13:07 - (SA)
Gaza - The ruling Palestinian Hamas movement threatened on Wednesday to spill blood in the streets of Israeli cities if Israel continued its threats and attacks in Gaza.
"If the occupation thought to loot our people's security, our people won't lose security alone. If bloodshed continues in Gaza, the streets and communities of the Zionist entity (Israel) won't be saved from bloodshed," a leaflet issued by the Islamic militant movement said.
"We will not allow any bid to topple this government," the statement added, warning of a "violent and tough response against Israel".
The statement came after Israel launched air strikes on three Hamas-controlled buildings overnight, including the interior ministry in Gaza City, a school run by Hamas and a training camp.
Israel's raids came hours after a Gaza-produced Palestinian rocket landed in the courtyard of a school in Ashkelon in southern Israel.
It was the first time a Gaza-produced Qassam rocket reached the heart of the Israeli coastal city. Hamas' armed wing claimed responsibility. - Sapa-dpa
