Bosnia: A ton of weapons found
08/07/2006 20:16 - (SA)
Sarajevo - European Union troops (EUFOR) in Bosnia have discovered a ton of illegal ammunition in the east of the country.
"A huge cache with about one ton of ammunitions" was found near the Bosnian Serb town of Misevina on Friday evening, said EUFOR in a statement.
EUFOR had acted on a tip-off from a local resident and searched a wood near Misevina, where they found "an uncovered hole with three large boxes full of ammunition".
In the boxes were "numerous mortar shells and a big amount of anti-personnel and anti-tank mines, enough to fill one truck".
Weapon caches remain hidden throughout Bosnia more than a decade after the former Yugoslav republic's 1992 to 1995 war.
