Brake failure caused jet crash
09/07/2006 16:22 - (SA)
Moscow - A failure in the hydraulic brakes system of a Russian passenger plane caused the jet to crash while landing at Irkutsk in Siberia on Sunday, an investigator was quoted by the RIA-Novosti news agency as saying.
"The information we have shows that after landing, when the plane put on the thrust reverser, there was a failure in the braking system that led other mechanisms in the system to break down," a member of the enquiry set up to look into the causes of the crash said.
"This meant the plane (an Airbus 310) was basically out of control after landing," the unnamed official continued. At least 122 people were
killed and 58 hospitalised, the emergency situations ministry said.
