Heartbroken girl hangs herself

Jakarta - An 11-year-old Indonesia girl is believed to have committed suicide after she found out her boyfriend dumped her for another girl, police said on Wednesday.
The fifth grade Islamic school student in Bekasi, West Java, just outside Jakarta, hung herself with a bed sheet in her family's modest home and was later found by her younger brother.
"It is confirmed that she committed suicide, and the path leads to a motive of a broken heart," police First Inspector Sulaiman told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa, citing love poems found on her schoolbooks dedicated to her boyfriend.
Although it was not clear who the boyfriend was, since the love poems were anonymously addressed, the victim's brother said she was seeing a sixth grade boy at her school.
The girl's parents told police they won't file charges and hope the case can be closed soon.
The girl's death was the latest in a string of child suicide cases believed to be caused by reasons such as poverty, bullying and harassment.
Child suicides began making headlines in May 2005 after three students - one of whom was only five years old - committed suicide within five weeks of each other, prompting calls by psychologists for parents and teachers to pay more attention to their children. - Sapa-dpa
