Singapore - A dead baby with its umbilical cord still attached was found in a staff locker at a Singapore supermarket, according to news reports on Tuesday.
Workers noticed a foul smell and used a spare key to open up the locker, where they found the baby in a semi-decomposed condition on Monday.
Indications were that the baby had been dead for at least two to three days, police told The Straits Times. The sex was not disclosed.
The tiny corpse was placed in a cardboard box used to contain fruit and taken to Singapore General Hospital.
Police investigating
Police have identified the female owner of the locker, who is assisting with investigations.
The locker was located in an area accessible to staff with passes, said a spokesperson for NTUC Fairprice Co-operative Limited.
Only permanent employees are assigned personal lockers.
The mother could be charged with infanticide if the baby was abandoned while alive.
If found guilty, she could receive up to a life sentence in prison. - Sapa-dpa
