Bill tells Hillary to wait
21/09/2006 07:24 - (SA)
Washington - Former US president Bill Clinton had some pointed advice on Wednesday for his wife, US senator Hillary Clinton: first get re-elected in November, only then start thinking about the White House.
Clinton, whose wife has rebuked him in the past for giving public tips about her political career, said he would not even discuss a possible run for the presidency with her at present.
"I have no idea if she would win," Clinton said in an interview on cable channel CNN.
The former president, who ran the US from 1992 to 2000, said it would be an "error" for Hillary Clinton to consider a presidential bid until she defends her senate seat in November 7 legislative elections.
Hillary Clinton is considered a likely contender for the Democratic Party nomination in the 2008 race for the White House.
