London - A 17-year-old appeared in court on
Thursday charged with the murder of a father-of-two who was
stabbed outside his east London home, said the metropolitan police.
Stevens Nyembo-Ya-Muteba, 40, was killed on Sunday near his
home in Evergreen Square in Hackney after he asked a gang of
youths to stop making a noise.
Nyembo-Ya-Muteba was attacked by a group of up to a dozen
people outside a block of flats.
Three other teenagers arrested in connection with the
murder, one aged 15 and two aged 16, were released on bail while
a fifth youth, aged 17, remains in custody.
On Wednesday, the dead man's widow told a press conference how her husband's death had "turned her world upside down."
Nyembo-Ya-Muteba's eldest daughter, seven-year-old, broke
into tears as she faced the cameras and sobbed, "I just want my daddy back."
The murder is the latest violent death to beset the eastern
part of the city in recent months. In August, Peter Woodhams,
22, was shot dead in nearby Canning Town.
The TV satellite engineer and father-of-one had earlier been
stabbed in the neck in January after confronting a gang throwing
stones.
