Sydney - Australia is considering a permanent national tribute to immortalise late Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin in his home nation, Prime Minister John Howard said on Friday.
Talks would be held between the government and members of the television wildlife daredevil's family on how the country should honour the memory of the quintessentially Australian "bloke", Howard said.
"I certainly know that the people want it and we've had some very good suggestions and I hope we can come up with a sensible proposal," Howard told Macquarie Radio.
"I've had a deluge of suggestions and I will be discussing it with the family quite soon and then be able to say something," he said.
The iconic reptile wrangler Irwin was killed in a freak stingray attack on September 4, sparking a national outpouring of grief over the adventurer, who in life had been the source of some embarrassment to many of his countrymen.
